D2M | Design to Matter is a product design company that develops leading edge products for its consulting clients as well as its incubation efforts. Who We’re Looking For

Engineers at D2M are an integral part of our Product Design teams and support D2Ms continued growth.  Success at D2M is measured in the areas of Creativity, Technical Leadership, Culture Building, Client Relationships, and Commerce.

Curiosity:  We like engineers, designers, project managers, and communications people who show a curiosity about how things work, how people think, what people feel, and how society reacts to all of the former.

Technical Leadership: Our engineers and designers love to work on complex design tasks using Solid Works, ProEngineer, Alias, Rhino, MatLab and other advanced engineering and analysis tools. Most of our senior engineers are viewed as team leaders who manage client relationships as well as providing insight and guidance to team members on technical challenges.

Culture Building: We like people who always try to do their best and who bring out the best in others.  People who mentor others, foster creativity, and infuse our teams with enthusiasm. We also like people who love to play and who look forward to our Happy Hour on Fridays.

Client Relationships: We need good communicators who are effective at simplifying complex technical concepts and communicating solutions to our clients. Director of Electrical and Software Engineering

Capabilities:

  • The ability to lead the Electrical and Software team, oversee projects, and develop sustainable client business
  • Reports to the President and Founder – must “manage up” well
  • Must be a strong technical leader and have a strong conceptual and creative side, demonstrated by past product successes
  • Must be able to manage and grow client relationships.
  • Mentor and develop current and new staff  to support D2M‘s continued growth
  • Strong business focus – proven ability to meet or or exceeds the clients expectation and run profitable on-time projects
  • Will have experience developing successful project proposals
  • Will assist in developing plans for new internal products

Experience and Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree and advanced degree strongly preferred in electrical or software engineering, or advanced scientific degrees
  • 8 – 15 years of total engineering and product design experience with 5 – 7+ years of management experience
  • Experience with design for manufacturing and Asian sourcing
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Comfortable with the problem-solving, user-centric and human factors approaches to design research and product design
  • Recruiting and hiring experience required
  • Consulting experience preferred
  • Demonstrated creativity – if you’ve got it, you’ll figure out how to show it

Senior Program Manager, Technical Programs

  • Likes the challenge of managing multiple engineering, design and product implementation projects
  • The point person in the D2M-Client relationship – must have great communication skills consistently exceed our client’s expectations
  • Primary responsibility for coordinating new product development projects from product specification through production release
  • Experience developing product scheduling, task tracking, and status reports
  • Expert at assessing project risk and risk management
  • Good at identifying resource requirements, creating the product development plan, and managing to a schedule and budget

Experience and Education:

  • 5-10 years (sr.) experience with project management responsibilities including team leadership, project scheduling, task tracking, resource management and billing
  • Degree or experience in a technical discipline is desirable.
  • Experience interacting with industrial design, mechanical, electrical and software engineering contributors.
  • Experience with MS Excel and Word required. MS Project experience strongly preferred.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be service oriented, flexible, a good problem solver, with a bias toward action.
  • Demonstrated problem solver – if you’ve are one, you’ll figure out how to show it

Senior Mechanical Engineer

Capabilities:

  • Experience working cross-functionally with industrial design and product marketing specialists.
  • Managing client relationships.
  • Program planning and management.
  • Technical leadership and hands-on design development.
  • Experience in design for plastic injection molded parts, sheet metal fabrication, and/or CNC fabrication of complex part design.
  • Experience in rapid 3-D visualization and hands-on prototyping.
  • Familiarity with ANSI level production documentation.

Experience and Education:

  • BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering or Robotics/Mechatronics or equivalent and 5-10 years of experience.
  • Strong 3-D solid modeling experience, Solidworks preferred.
  • Some experience in high volume manufacturing and design for manufacturing  (DFM), experience in off-shore manufacturing, China preferred.
  • Great written and oral communication skills (writing sample required).
  • Creative and risk taking personality.

Senior Electrical Engineer

Capabilities:

  • Embedded systems hardware architecture and design with modern 16- and 32-bit CPUs and DSPs
  • Digital and mixed-signal PCB design and implementation
  • Consumer product design using embedded microcontrollers
  • I/O bus implementations (PCI, USB, ISA, AGP, etc.)
  • Peripheral component design experience (Ethernet, memory subsystems, etc.)
  • Experience with hardware drivers and low-level firmware
  • Low-power design techniques for battery-operated systems
  • Sensor interfacing and simple analog signal conditioning
  • Production test methods

Experience and Education:

  • BS, MS, or PhD in EE or CS, or equivalent experience with 5-10 years of experience
  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills
  • Good documentation practices
  • Success in taking several designs through to high-volume production
  • Successful experience on a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated creativity – if you’ve got it, you’ll figure out how to show it

Senior Software Engineer

Capabilities:

  • Experience with various embedded OSs (Linux, Windows CE, etc)
  • Product design using single-chip microcontrollers and microprocessors
  • C and Assembly for embedded applications (e.g., running on Atmel, MSP, ARM, PIC, or 8051’s)
  • C++ for embedded x86 and real-time environments; Visual Studio
  • Hardware drivers, test routines and low-level firmware
  • Low-power design techniques for battery-operated systems
  • Product test methods, fixtures and programming in a high-volume manufacturing environment
  • Success in taking several designs through to high-volume production
  • Design and validation of software in real-time environments, including hands-on bring-up of hardware and firmware

Experience and Education:

  • A B.S. or M.S. in CS plus a minimum 10 years of experience
  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills
  • Good documentation practices – specifications, test plans, code comments
  • Successful experience on a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated creativity – if you’ve got it, you’ll figure out how to show it

Internships (we are not having our internship program this year (2013) we will restart the program next year)

D2M, Inc seeks energetic and team oriented engineering, design, and communication students to join our firm for our Summer Internship program. We are looking to identify talented individuals for possible future employment, while at the same time providing students meaningful projects that are designed to expose you to a ”real-world” work environment. We are looking for technically talented, creative entrepreneurial individuals who like to solve tough engineering, design and marketing problems in unique ways.

Our Interns will be provided with the tools, projects, and mentoring that allow this to truly be a hands-on educational experience. Our Interns work alongside other experienced D2M’ers on ongoing projects related to product design and development for Fortune 100 and startup clients alike.  A summer internship at D2M is a one-of-a-kind experience.

Mechanical Engineering and Product Design Interns

Experience and Education:

  • currently working toward a BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or Product Design
  • Basic mechanical design skills
  • some 3D solid modeling experience Pro/Engineer Wildfire and Solidworks
  • some manufacturing curriculum or experience
  • some human centered design or psychology curriculum

Electrical Engineering Interns

Experience and Education:

  • currently working toward a BS or MS in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science

  • C/C++ programming experience in a Windows or Linux environment
